A community of educators empowering students to take climate action

Take part in the Green Influencers Scheme!
No Translation

We have an exciting opportunity for Year 5 and/or Year 6 students to be supported to run their own youth social action projects. We want to empower young people to act positively on the social and environmental issues they care about.

This Project is part of the Ernest Cook Trust's Green Influencers Scheme, which aims to help young people realise their potential to positively impact the environment through youth social action. Further information can be found on their website, linked here.

Is your school interested in taking part in this fully funded opportunity?

What is involved?

  • A class of (25+) students from Year 5 and/or 6 will design and carry out a project which creates positive social and environmental change within their community, through which their skills, knowledge, values, and confidence will be nurtured.
  • They will be supported by a fully trained, DBS-checked member of Global Action Plan staff who will meet with the group on a regular basis (weekly).
  • There is also a grant of £360 available to facilitate the group’s action project and help turn your students’ ideas into reality, and a further grant of up to £5,000 can be applied for.

When is the project starting?

We hope to start working with a class of students as soon as possible. The group will work on their project throughout the Spring and Summer term.

Why is the Green Influencers Scheme running?

The mission of the scheme is to assist young people to create deep, lasting, and meaningful connections with the natural environment. Through this, young people will learn and build skills which will help them contribute to the local community through environmental action.

Furthermore, our recent research at Global Action Plan with nearly 1000 young people has found that whilst most 7-18 year olds do care about caring for other people and the environment, the majority feel alone in their concern and are afraid of speaking up for fear of not fitting in with their peers. We are keen to break this barrier down and normalise taking action on issues we care about.

This scheme developed by The Ernest Cook Trust in 2019 as a match-funded project with #iwill. Both #iwill and The Ernest Cook Trust have provided £1.5million resulting in a total of £3million to be spent over 3years on youth environmental action.
