About The RSPB Wild Challenge Award
The RSPB Wild Challenge Award provides a range of themed activities in and for nature for children in primary and early years settings. These can be completed as stand-alone tasks or as part of a longer project with bronze, silver and gold certificates awarded depending on the actions completed.
Activities are grouped into 'Actions for Nature' and 'Experiences of Nature', with 24 activities in total, so schools can select those most suitable for their setting.
The 'Actions for Nature' activities suggest environmental improvements for the school grounds, such as planting for wildlife or building homes for mammals. These also include advocacy activities, such as persuasive writing to local MPs with Spread the Word.
'Experiences of Nature' activities include getting up close with nature such as; Look Closer, Plant Safari, Sensing the World or Big Schools’ Birdwatch. The activities can be completed as stand-alone tasks or they can be completed as a journey with one task informing the next. A Biodiversity Action Plan helps you to review progress and offers direction for what to do next.
So far, over 78,000 individual 'Actions for Nature' and 65,000 'Experiences in Nature' have taken place - and these figures are still rising!
