On the last Thursday of January, we welcomed the Irish Schools Sustainability Network to our student committee meeting which is held every fortnight and regularly attended by 20 student representatives from across the network.
On this evening we had an additional few from the ISSN network who spoke about their projects and what they learnt from their experience thus far. We got to hear about their environmental leadership development programme that engaged students via their outdoor classroom activities. They also spoke about their social change project that focused on encouraging the younger students to take action on climate change through better habits for the environment. Lastly, they shared about their 5 Minutes of Sustainability initiative which is their newest project aimed at educating students about climate change through 5-minute videos on the topic.
The UKSSN students also shared their own experiences of the different projects they had gotten involved in within the last year ranging from their trip to COP26, their response to the DFE’S Climate change and sustainability strategy, their latest book review & interview of Mya-Rose Craig aka Birdgirl and the previous summer residential to Wytham Woods
In addition to this, the students still had enough time to connect with each other through icebreaker activities and breakout room discussions. All in all, it was a successful evening for the two networks.
