A Sustainable Future - Changing policy for good

Changing policy for good

Marine Conservation Society

Session for students 16+

New policy works best when there is community support, brought about by taking a 'bottom-up' approach. Reaching beyond the boundary of the school and into the local community, in this lesson we will discuss how to bring about positive change at a whole community level.  Students will learn how to better understand their wider local community and effectively work together to uncover solutions that enable positive change. Finally, students will be shown how this type of conversation creates data that can be actively used to improve local and national policy.

Using Marine Protected Area management as a case study, this session will introduce students to techniques employed by Government agencies and NGOs around the world when guiding communities through change.
