The Benefits of Attending a Mock COP in Your Local Area
(16/11/21)

Students at COP

This is what it looked like when 3 of our UKSSN students were part of a panel in the actual COP26 Blue Zone!

Lara (Year 12, from Surrey) interviewed two of her fellow students about taking part in a Mock COP26 event in their area.

A 'Mock COP' is basically a smaller, more local environmental event which mimics an actual 'COP' (Conference of the Parties) global climate conference, which this year was the 26th conference held in Glasgow and known as 'COP26'.

In the interviews below, each student's individual answer is given as a separate bullet point after each question.

Q: How useful was the Mock COP26, can you bring back any important feedback to the school?

  • Quite useful, regarding how policies are made and how countries interact with each other. Our two teams represented Russia and Saudi Arabia.

  • Very useful, so important that everyone gets the opportunity to experience a mock of a significant event which is currently occurring.

Q: Would you recommend the event?

  • Yes, it was very interesting and informative.

  • Yes, very enjoyable and learnt a great deal.

Q: Is your understanding of environmental policies more advanced now?

  • Definitely, you get the understanding of individual countries.

  • Definitely, interactions with other students was practical.

Q: How many other schools participated?

  • Around three other schools participated, which was useful as the participants were able to form environmental alliances and enemies.

If you think you would like to organise a Mock COP in your own school/area, please refer to the resources provided by the InterClimate Network to help you prepare and organise such an event.
