A community of educators empowering students to take climate action

How to join

The London Schools Eco Network (LSEN), a founding member of the UK Schools Sustainability Network, is a group of passionate and motivated students in Years 8-13 who want to make their schools and communities more sustainable. Student-led meetings take place online every fortnight during term time. Students organise and run campaigns, share ideas and hear from speakers.

Recent meetings have included

  • how schools can make their menus more sustainable
  • starting school ‘eco refill’ shops
  • getting the climate crisis into school safeguarding policies
  • achieving Eco Schools status
  • taking part in the Teach the Teacher campaign and Planet Super League
  • recognising and managing eco-anxiety
  • setting school-wide eco resolutions
  • running a people's assembly
  • initiatives to get students and staff cycling to school
  • In addition to these meetings, LSEN students are invited to termly in-person events. The last academic year included a London-wide Mock COP and an air pollution workshop with top engineers from Dyson. You can read more about LSEN projects and campaigns here.

Students just like you chair and minute our meetings, run our social media and lead on our campaigns. Whilst making your school and community more sustainable you develop key life skills!

If this is of interest, please read the student FAQs here and if you’d like to get involved please fill in this form with your parents.

Joining the LSEN

School staff who wish to be involved in the LSEN need to complete this form. You are welcome to share this with colleagues in your school, and with any colleagues in other London secondary schools who may be interested. Filling out this form does not commit you to attending any meetings or events but it does mean you’ll receive information about them. You’ll be added to our Teams account and you’ll be a port of call for any students from your school in the LSEN who have safeguarding concerns. Please read the Staff FAQs here.

Students in Years 8 -13 who wish to be involved in the LSEN need to complete this form. Most students in the secondary networks are Year 10-13s but Year 8-9s are welcome to join if their teacher and parent think they are sufficiently mature and are happy for them to do so. Please share this widely in your school (e.g. with your eco committee and your school council). There is an email blurb you can copy and paste - see below. Filling out this form does not commit your students to attending any meetings or events but it does mean they’ll receive information about them. Students who fill this out will be added to our Teams account but note that students cannot join Teams or online meetings unless a member staff from your school has completed the form above.
