Chester Schools Sustainability Network was launched in January 2023, and brings together representatives from seven high schools across Chester and Wirral.
Chester Zoo act as the network hub, and aim to bring skills and knowledge in sustainability and conservation to coordinate a wonderful network of passionate individuals representing their school.
Something that was important to the network from the outset was that there was buy-in from school headteachers and senior management teams, as to ensure that when students come together to learn from other schools and the wider UK network, they will be listened to when they present these ideas to their school.
During the network’s first year, students have worked together to select a network logo, contributed to a video explaining “why climate change, sustainability, and the biodiversity crisis matters to young people”, and represented Chester Schools Sustainability Network at Chester Zoo’s Schools Takeover Day.
During the 2023-2024 academic year, the network looks forward to growing further, and students will this year discuss the use of sustainable palm oil as a standing item on the monthly agenda, as well as hearing from speakers on sustainability issues, and having an open forum to discuss the sustainability topics which are important to them.
Schools wishing to join the network should email [email protected] for further information.
