FAQs

Do you have any questions about the Clean Air for Schools Framework? Browse our FAQs below, and if you would like to get in touch, you can email us at [email protected] or use the contact us form at the bottom of the page.

The design process incorporated insights from the Clean Air Hospital Framework and existing school focused toolkits / frameworks from leading organisations in the air quality space. The framework has been user tested by teachers, headteachers, local authorities and academics. The framework will be endorsed by leading health, academic and air quality professionals to ensure the advice provided is reliable, trusted and solution focused.

We have designed our framework around a set of 11 principles that you can download here.

Each of the 37 actions have been evidenced/validated by a mix of existing research, academic insights from the University of Manchester and in school air quality testing.

The Framework should take around 20-30 minutes to complete, depending on the information you have to hand.

No! Feel free to select the actions that you are realistically capable of implementing at your school.

While some actions might have lower impact scores for their immediate impact on air quality, they are still an important action to implement due to high-impact co-benefits such as improved mental and physical health and learning opportunities for students.

Some of the actions also have a low impact rating because they do not have an immediate impact, but over time can prove to be an effective action to improve air quality.

The actions listed in our Framework are relevant for most schools. Feel free to select actions for your action plan that are the most relevant for your school’s specific situation.

Many of the actions in our Framework are relevant to schools from outside the UK. Our resources and case studies might not be as relevant for you, so we recommend that you consult your local authority to see how you might be able to implement some of the external actions from your action plan.

Yes! A comprehensive list of student focused resources can be found in the supporting text for the 'Teach students about air pollution through the curriculum' action within the Education pathway.
