Surrey Environmental Action Schools

Welcome to our site! We are a newly formed alliance of six wonderful Surrey secondary schools who first met in January 2021 to allow students to discuss issues and ideas about sustainability and the climate and ecological crisis. We discuss topics that are relevant to our schools, local area and more widely.

The members of the group are predominantly from years 12 and 13 but years 8-11 are welcome to join if their teacher and parent think they are sufficiently mature and are happy for them to do so. We meet once or twice every half term, usually on a Thursday at about 6.30pm. Schools take it in turns to plan, chair and take the minutes of the meetings and our members also attend the UKSSN meetings. 

We plan to undertake shared initiatives, share resources, provide a platform for discussion and learning about the environment.

Mission Statement

The Surrey Environmental Action Schools (SEAS) has been set up with the following intentions: 

• To encourage discussion, learning and engagement amongst students from different school about sustainability, the environment and the climate and ecological crises; 
• To encourage active and creative collaboration amongst students different schools to address issues in these areas;
• To foster connections between schools and their students;
• To share resources and ideas regarding environmental matters; 
• To promote responsibility towards the environment in the wider communities we are involved in, through campaigns, events, publications and activism;
• To promote leadership and self-determination in students and, through this, foster an enduring, positive and proactive mindset towards the environment that will inform the future life-choices of members.
