About iRescue
Electronics like laptops and phones have huge environmental and social costs associated with them: from the habitat destruction that mining for the rare earth metals they’re made from causes, to the dangerous chemicals factory workers are exposed to when manufacturing them. In the UK alone, it's estimated that there are over 100 million devices sitting in our homes unwanted and unused. If we recycled all of those devices instead of sending them to landfill it could be worth £54 billion!
iRescue is an education and action programme designed to empower students to tackle this issue, and get their whole community involved too! Through organising community collections of old phones and laptops - which can be recycled and resold - they’re able to reduce the amount of electronics going to landfill, and recover precious materials that would otherwise need to be mined.
We have just completed a successful UK-based pilot of the iRescue programme, and are looking for partners to support a national rollout. For more information, or to find out how you can collaborate, please use the enquiry form at the bottom of the page.
