A community of educators empowering students to take climate action

About Eco-Schools

Eco-Schools is a structured, ongoing, global programme enabling students of all ages, and teachers, to embed environmental action and learning into the heart of school life, and the local community.

Consisting of three elements – The Seven Step Framework, Eco-Schools Topics, and external assessment - and covering topics such as Biodiversity, Healthy Living, Citizenship, Marine and Litter, the programme methodology is suitable for all school levels. It takes schools through a logical series of steps, from the creation of an Eco-Committee, through a review of existing practice and creation of an Eco-Code, all the way to external assessment.

The programme is truly active and requires support from school leaders and active involvement from staff, as well as a long-term commitment and willingness to involve students in decision making.

Eco-Schools has so far reached 67 counties, 19.5million students, and over 18,500 schools in England alone, making it the largest educational programme on the planet.
