We have been working with Modeshift Stars. We have gained the 'GOOD' award for our work in sustainable travel and trying to reduce car travel to school and encouraging our young people to be aware of the benefits of active travel.
Adelaide School are very excited at becoming part of Transform Our World! I have shared our Climate Action Plan with members of staff and will be sharing it with our environment group today. We are keen to get started and have signed up to recieve the newsletter and contacted Water Aid to come and do a workshop.

We are pleased to annouce we have now installed 726 solar panels installed thats a 297.7 kW system. Our projected savings financially are over £2.5million over the lifetime and they didn't cost us a penny as they were funded by Solar for Schools Community Benefits Society (CBS). Importantly in the school holidays we were saving over 1 tonne of carbon and gnerating over 6kW of electricity. The pupils planned the designs using the Solar for School App and we have now integrated the solar panels as a teaching resource in science, technology and STEM classes.
We are now moving to our next project of replacing the boilers.
Our Year 5 Eco team members received a reply from our local MP with regards to teh letter they wrote to him about the use of Fairtrade bananas in the schools fruit and vegetable scheme. They were informed that the scheme's contract will be up for renewal next year where Fairtrade bananas would be considered. Apparently, this scheme is sent out to tender.
We are still waiting for a reply from the manager at Alliance Partnership, the schools's catering contractor. I did manage to speak to her this week, as she visited school, she said sugar was Fairtrade and that she would ask the nutritionist about it. She also pointed out that these products are more expensive, which we are already aware of. I pointed out that this money went to the farmers to help them farm their land, provide us with vegaetables we cannot grow in this country, buy food, clothes and medicines for their family and pay for school for their children. These farmers are also affected more by the effects of climate change through the actions of others. These were the reasons that teh children at St Patrick's would like soem Fairtrade swaps in the school kitchen.

Eco Club took part in a beach clean with the Marine Conservation Society, they had a great time clearing the beach of over 9kgs of waste! This waste was dangerous for sea creatures and birds, they also kept a record of all they found so this information can be used for future reference. They were proud to be part of something so important and are looking forward to taking part in more of these in the future.

We are out in the sunshine preparing for our plant swap as part of Big Green Week.

Our Eco team will write a letter to our school caterers and local MP Saqib Bhatti. They will try to persaude the cateres to make at least one Fairtrade Swap within the school dinners or kitchen. To our local MP they will follow in the footsteps of the pupils at St Peters Catholic Primary School in Leatherhead. This school has a petition open to encourage the Governement to open a debate on introducing Fairtrade bananas to schools as part of the free fruit government funded programme. Our writing will support St Peters and echo their words.
The link below is for the petition if anyone would like to sign it by January 26th - this week. We have sent a message out to our parents sharing this link.

Our Eco brick was soon looking lovely when all the plants were put in, we are excited to watch this change as more plants added and grow.

Our delivery of our new clothing recycling bank has arrived at school - great news for our Eco team and school. We are working hard towards our net zero target.
