Our youth social action work in Kent and Essex is focused on empowering young people to take meaningful social and environmental action in their schools and communities.

Through this programme, young people are supported by our local Youth Engagement Practitioners to lead their own projects that help to raise awareness and drive behavioural change around social and environmental issues that are important to them in their local area. The initiatives are designed to build young people’s skills in leadership, communication, and collaboration while fostering a sense of ownership.

Our youth engagement practitioners work with schools to encourage young people to participate in youth social action that might not normally put themselves forward to engage and lead initiatives, by working closely with schools to create a positive environment and by asking teachers to pro-actively promote the opportunity and benefits of participation.

As part of this programme, we are training educators across Kent and Essex to support youth social action and promote compassionate values.

So far:

440 young people have designed and delivered their own projects,

and a further 9,617 young people have engaged with these projects.

I would like to do things like this more as it makes me happy as it helps the environment. Also, it builds and strengthens friendships, it also gives us power. I hope things like this carry on in our school and more get to feel like I do.
