Youth Panel 23-24
(28/10/23)
Posted by : Transform Our World

We have a bunch of passionate young people, between the ages of 14-16 years old, from secondary schools across the UK to join in the design, organisation and promotion of the Transform Our World Earth Day Youth Summit that will be taking place online on the 22nd April.

The Youth Panel meet online weekly to work together on creating sessions, making social media content, inputting their ideas on the event and discussing their thoughts and feelings on the climate crisis.

There is a role for everyone to play when it comes to being a part of the Youth Panel.

Charlotte (she/her)

''I’ve always loved nature and I am passionate about environmental science. I am excited to discuss environmental issues, particularly from a scientific standpoint. It will be so valuable to hear everyone’s perspectives and have this space to discuss my own. I am thrilled to meet the rest of the panel and collectively spread the message of becoming environmentally conscious and taking steps towards a more sustainable future.''

Mofope (she/her)

''I wanted to be a part of the Transform Our World Youth Panel because I've always strived for a more sustainable future. This gives me the chance to be the change that I want to see. I'm passionate about equality and the planet; I want to educate as well as encourage people to join this important cause - after all it is our home, we all need to play a part in it.''

Jaishna (she/her)

''The chance to serve on the Youth Panel is perfectly aligned with my desire to have a meaningful impact. I strongly believe that empowering young minds is essential for uncovering innovative solution to the world's present challenges. I'm confident that I can make a difference in this world, along side the other panellists. I want to be involved in the project, ensuring that are voices are heard loud and clear. The Youth Panel appears to be an ideal setting for transforming exciting ideas into real-life changes.''

''I’m really excited to become a youth ambassador because I want to make a difference. I want to meet like-minded people who are as passionate as I am and I want to represent young people and my school by sharing my ideas. I want to be a part of something bigger than my school eco committee to deliver a bigger change to help our environment. I believe our generation must play its part. I have experienced first hand how as a young person it can be tricky to know how and what we need to do to even approach the climate problem, never-mind solve it. By working together I’m really keen to see how we can mobilise people in our communities to bring around change.''

''I wanted to become a Transform Our World Youth Panellist because I have a large interest in how we can make small, simple changes to altogether make a big difference to our planet’s future. I have a particular interest in how we can reduce our carbon footprint and to eventually become carbon neutral. I think that it is essential for everyone on the planet to take an active role in looking after planet Earth. This ranges from the world leaders, who can enforce these changes, to the general public to make small changes in order to make a big difference when added up. I think that it is important that young people are able to get a decent education about what actions we should take to help reduce the impact of climate change. Furthermore, this is going to be our best hope of saving our home planet before it is too late. We also need to work together and change the attitudes of all the living generations to make sure that everyone is getting educated equally about this issue.''

''I have always had a passion for wildlife, so when my school told me about this opportunity I had to apply. I wanted to become a part of the Youth Panel because I am passionate about protecting the environment and I believe it is so important that young people are not only informed about the issues involving climate change, but also empowered to take action. This could be by cycling instead of driving, buying food from local sources, or even just using a reusable water bottle - any form of action makes a difference.''

''I feel honoured to be chosen for this year’s Youth Panel, and I am so excited to be part of a group of like-minded young people who are as passionate as I am about saving our planet. My interest in endangered species and the environment started at an early age after learning about the damaging impacts humans have on wildlife. I write articles weekly for my school’s newsletter and many of these articles focus on the changes we can all make at home and at school that have a positive impact within the community. I have also been at the forefront of establishing a Student Leadership team at my school. Our main goal is to give students a voice and we have decided, as a team, to focus on making the school more sustainable, in order to have a less damaging effect on the world. It is vital that young people raise awareness, educate others in their community, and take action before it is too late. Encouraging everyone to make small changes creates substantial change for our world. I am looking forward to being part of this.''

''I'm passionate about climate justice and equality, and I applied to join the youth panel because I wanted to have a chance to express my opinions and meet other young people who are interested in making the world a better place for everyone, and living in harmony with the Earth. I don't think climate action is about pointing fingers or finding someone to blame for this crisis; it's about finding the courage to change the ways we do things - to question and challenge oppressive and unsustainable systems; and finding innovative, sustainable solutions that work for everyone.''

''Current affairs around the world are devastating, with countless lives and species being lost, whether due to human warfare, or the climate crisis. Through the Youth Panel, I aim to release some of this burden by reducing our impact on our only planet and educating other young people about how we can help. I live rurally on a relatively small sheep farm, so nature has always been a part of my life. I see how essential it is to work toward sustainability with farmers, not against them. Additionally, in August 2023 I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stay for 2 weeks in Madagascar with Girl Guiding on a conservation programme. From these amazing experiences I have become more eco-conscious and understand that it is essential to work towards eco-goals alongside and for the community without major disruption. I am excited to spread this message through my role on the youth panel to other young people to educate and inspire them, so that they know that their voices are heard!''

''I wanted to be a part of the Transform Our World Youth Panel because I want to see change on how we, as a society, treat our planet. We're unnecessarily contributing to climate change, which is already causing many issues worldwide, such as increased floods and heatwaves. Also, I think that people from BAME backgrounds are underrepresented when it comes to topics such as climate change and are rarely seen encouraging climate action anytime it is in the news. This is something I really want to change, and being on this youth panel is a step towards it. Finally, I want to see people taking action on climate change in their day to day lives, whether that be those in government pushing to save the planet or a student cycling to school rather than taking the car, I believe that all these changes, big or small, add up immensely when it comes to saving our planet.''
