Youth Climate Summit Ambassador letter to Sir David Attenborough
(21/10/20)
Posted by : Transform our World

Dear Sir David,

RE: Youth Climate Summit in November

First of all, we would like to say a big “Welcome to Insta!” :) Your TV documentaries, new and old, have inspired our generation of young people to appreciate the beauty, complexity and fragility of the web of life that we are lucky to have on this planet. It’s great that young people can now get a dose of daily inspiration from you on Instagram; it is a much better platform with you on it!

To the business in hand... We are writing this letter to you in the hope that you will be able to support us, as Youth Climate Ambassadors, as we are raising awareness of the Youth Climate Summit. It is taking place online 9th-13th November 2020 (the week that would have seen this year's COP26 event) and we would love you to be involved in any way you can! Here are a couple of our ideas:

  • Open or close the summit with a live or pre-recorded message to schools and young people all around the UK
  • Join our closing summit at 2pm on Friday 13th Nov so that we, as young people representing our schools, can tell you about the pledges we’re making for our planet
  • Post about the event on your Instagram account to help us get as many people involved as possible

There are more details on the website (youthclimatesummit2020.org) and we would be extremely happy if you were available and interested in supporting in any way you can.

Like you, we understand the urgency of fighting against the climate crisis and we believe that now it is more important than ever to change the way we interact with our planet. This is why it is crucial a Youth Climate Summit is being held now. There are over 6.5 million young people in school who we want to become better custodians of our planet once they complete their education and enter adulthood. As young people, we often feel not listened to by older generations, many deeming that we lack the life experience to understand large worldly issues, but this summit is a chance for our youth voice to be heard.

We await your response eagerly and would like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do to inspire young people and to communicate the urgency of action required to halt climate change and restore our biodiversity.

If you are able to help us with the Summit, please can you send an email to Steph who works for Global Action Plan, the environmental charity helping teachers and young people to coordinate the event – [email protected]

Yours faithfully and with greatest admiration,
