Previous Youth Ambassador Liam shares how Transform Our World has inspired his work in his local community in the West Midlands.

"I was a Transform Our World Youth Ambassador in 2021 - and I felt that I wanted to give you an update on what I have done in the past 3 years!

I am still helping the environment and have been boosting student voice in Sandwell. I have won an Ormiston Academy Trust (OAT) Award - OAT is the trust my school belongs to with 41 schools - for Pupil Social Action.

I have recently taken action on Citizenship Education - this links on to what I have done with the youth ambassadors. I have been able to use my skills from being the youth ambassador in my local community for environmental education and now in my school we are heavily keen on the environment with our Eco Schools award.

I have got many people in my school and local community who have helped me carry on the amazing work that I have done with Transform Our World. The ambassador work has really helped me to get a roll on with climate action and our goal environmental education!

I feel with the awards that I have won is a massive thank you to Transform Our World and my local community for making it happen.

Being a Youth Ambassador with Transform Our World gave me this boost towards the correct direction to be able to create a positive environment for my local community in the West Midlands.

In the year that I was a Youth Ambassador, our topic was on environmental education and on how we felt that we need to have more of.  As at now, we have got 1,073 signatures on our petition and if you feel the same, please go and sign the petition here.

In the last part, I mentioned a bit about my Citizenship project - in the West region of the 44 schools in the OAT academies - and we created research for BERA that has been sent to governmental officials based around the current issues with Citizenship Education.

One of the issues we covered in the document was the environmental education that we get.

If we get a change, this won't just affect citizenship education in OAT schools but all schools in the UK. Some of the environmental education discussions came in through me and that came from what I learnt in my time as a Youth Ambassador.

I wouldn't be able to share this with you without the person who told me about Transform Our World - Leah from Global Action Plan and Mr Rashid from Ormiston Forge Academy.

Also, a massive thank you to Gemma Hind from Ormiston Academies Trust for enabling my knowledge from my experience as a youth ambassador into doing expanded work for education and student voice.

Thank you."

Liam, 2021 Youth Ambassador
