Mili, a Year 12 student in the London Schools Eco Network recently led part of a meeting where she explained the benefits of trying veganism during January.
In this meeting, she touched on a number of key points: the idea of progress over perfection, how trying something for just one month can lead to lasting change, and the health and environmental benefits of eating a plant-based diet. The LSEN students then led a productive discussion about how to encourage more sustainable diets in their schools.
As part of her presentation, Mili performed this wonderful poem, that she had written especially for this meeting:
A new year brings a fresh start,
A chance to change our heart,
To live a life that's kind and true,
And make a difference, me and you.
Veganuary is the perfect time,
To try a plant-based diet and make it shine,
To leave behind the meat and cheese,
And discover new flavours, fresh and clean.
It's not just about the food we eat,
But the impact on the environment and animals we meet,
With a vegan diet, we reduce harm,
And live in harmony with nature's charm.
It's a journey, a step at a time,
And soon, you'll see a change in your mind,
You'll feel better, and so will the earth,
Veganuary, a step towards a better birth.
You'll discover new recipes and new friends,
And you'll be part of a movement that never ends,
So take the challenge, give it a try,
You'll be surprised how good it feels to fly.
