On the brisk evening of the 1st of December, representatives for the LSEN (London Schools Eco-Network) from twelve state and independent schools from across London convened at the City of London School for Boys with a bold aim; to launch a new campaign designed by students for schools. After a brief foray into the current global climate impacts via a giant map in the concourse of the school, the group of intrepid climate activists were tasked with designing and launching of a brand new push for climate awareness on the topic of energy usage within schools by the end of the evening, two and a half hours later. The representatives were divided into groups, some writing a press release to send to news outlets, some making a promotional video and some devising engaging form time activities.

To perform this monumental task, everyone worked to the best of their abilities, producing an intricate and impactful campaign. Communication between teams was a must, and the desire for action amongst the young people attending was clear through the strong cooperation between those who had never met each other before.

What was produced was a campaign targeting wasted energy in schools, through numerous methods including promotion of energy effectiveness in education and installing of insulation to reduce the loss of heat, to name but a few. It is a crucial step of the LSEN in promoting awareness and making a positive change in the fight against the climate crisis. All that can be said is that hopefully schools across London acknowledge the hard work of the LSEN and adopt its campaign.
