Girls work together to save water

A group of girls from Virgo Fidelis Convent Senior School in London worked together to create an engaging and creative water saving campaign as part of the H2O Heroes programme.

The girls reached out to their entire school and local community by running multiple assemblies. They ran an in-school assembly every day for National Hydration Week, allowing them to reach every year group. The girls managed to gain the support of their deputy head for these assemblies, which helped add weight to the importance of their message. The students who attended the assemblies made water-saving pledges, and completed a survey which showed that 83% of pupils would make a change to the way they use water! The assemblies were so successful that the Year 11’s decided to give the money they raised from two school events to Water Aid.

The team also decided to try to spread their impact even wider than their own school community by offering to run an assembly and workshop for their local primary school. In their assembly they explained why and how to save water, and designed some fun activities to get the younger students engaged. They even created their very own animation video about a creature which was suffering due to humans wasting and polluting freshwater sources.

The team managed to spread their message even wider, by connecting with their sister school in Pakistan. Speaking to each other over Skype, they shared their experiences and discussed the different ways to save water in each country.

"What I enjoyed most is that we worked as a team and came up with great ideas!”
