April: Monthly round up from Youth Ambassador Neha
(31/03/22)
Posted by :

Every month, one of our Transform Our World Youth Ambassadors presents a monthly update, a minute-long snapshot of what has been happening in the world and what is coming up.

Here, Youth Ambassador Neha shares her thoughts on the fossil fuel-funded war in Ukraine, and talks about days to look out for in April.

Watch Neha's video and read the full transcript below.

"My name is Neha and I'll be bringing you April's youth ambassador report.

Svitlana Krakovska, Ukraine's leading climate scientist has spoken
up on the war in Ukraine being a fossil fuel war.

Burning oil gas and coal is causing warming and impacts we need to adapt to, and Russia sells these resources and uses the money to buy weapons.

Other countries are dependent upon these fossil fuels, they don't make
themselves free of them.

This is a fossil fuel war. It's clear we cannot continue to live this way, it will destroy our civilization, says Krakovska.

Jamal Raad, Executive Director of Evergreen Action said "as long as our economy is dependent on fossil fuels, we will be at the mercy of petrol
dictators who wield their influence on global energy prices like a weapon."

If this isn't reason enough to be supporting Ukraine and so our planet,
I don't know what it is.

On a brighter note, here are some upcoming events for April, the Big Plastic Count runs until the 22nd of May, you can find the website at  the bigplasticcount.com.

Earth day is on the 22nd of April and the website is earthday.org.

Climate Education Conversations run from the 30th of March to the 29th of June, they are a series of online discussions about climate education hosted
by researchers.

Students age 16 and plus teachers and others with an interest in climate education are welcome.

It will take place online via zoom from 5.30 to 6.30pm on the last Wednesday of each month from March to June.
