Growing Future
South London Botanical Institute
Session for secondary schools
Growing Future Fashion Designers will give an overview of the impacts of the fashion industry on the environment and examine inspirational directions for design as a tool for change. Linking the talk to The South London Botanical Institute we will also highlight extraordinary and innovative textiles made from plants and plant bio-waste including coffee and grapes together with fashion and accessories made from these fabrics. The talk will help spark some links between nature, creativity, science and tech in design innovation for textiles and fashion and give links to follow for further learning.
The South London Botanical Institute is based in Tulse Hill London. Founded in 1910, it has a beautiful botanical garden and runs a wide range of courses, workshops, school visits and events for visitors of all ages to learn about plants.
