Respect the Ocean
With North London Collegiate School
Session for secondary schools
Alina Halstenberg is a 16-year-old student at North London Collegiate School who is extremely passionate about protecting our environment. She is part of the London Schools Eco Network and she is in contact with her local MP about a green Covid-19 recovery. She was Head of the Green Team at her school where she introduced eco-initiatives such as Sustainable Secret Santa, Swap Shop, Anti-Fast Fashion February. Most importantly, she received a hand-written letter from Sir David Attenborough.
Her talk entitled ‘Respect the ocean - protect the ocean; Be part of the solution - not the pollution’ aims to educate listeners about current problems affecting our oceans such as plastic pollution, sea level rises and overfishing. She will discuss why oceans are so precious and how they play a vital and central role in global climate and regional weather patterns. She will share some shocking facts about the mind-boggling quantities of water used to create items such as rice, beef and jeans and she will encourage listeners to be conscious of how much water they waste and what they can do as individuals and school communities to protect our oceans.
