How can reusing and recycling electricals help
Material Focus
Session for All ages
Between us, we buy an incredible 1.65 million tonnes of electricals every year, in the UK. Tech is transforming all of our lives whether at school, work or at home. But what happens to our old tech, when we upgrade our iPhone or buy the latest console? In fact, throw away unwanted electricals are the fastest growing waste stream in the world with a whopping 52 million old electricals hoarded in our homes across the UK.
This session takes you on a journey from initial purchase of an electrical through to their end of life, and highlight the opportunities, challenges, and environmental impacts of our increasing consumption of electricals and electronics. It shares what the Recycle Your Electricals campaign is doing to motivate and make it easier for people to reuse and recycle. It'll show how tackling electrical waste can help countries across the globe reduce global CO2 emission.
Material Focus is a not-for-profit organisation on a mission to transform the way we all think about our unwanted electricals from useless waste to valuable resources. Our vision is a world in which materials are never wasted. We've launched the UK-wide Recycle Your Electricals campaign to get the nation reusing and recycling their old electricals, instead of binning or hoarding them, by motivating and making it easier to act.
