A community of educators empowering students to take climate action

Clean Air Day 2022

What is Clean Air Day?

Clean Air Day is the UK's largest air pollution campaign, bringing together communities, businesses, schools and the health sector. This year, Clean Air Day is taking place on Thursday 16th June 2022.

The theme for this year’s campaign is: “Air pollution dirties every organ in your body. Take steps to improve your health this Clean Air Day.”

The primary actions of this year’s campaign are:

  • Talking to someone about the harms of air pollution.
  • Walking those short distance trips and leaving the car at home, where you can.
  • Asking local and national decision makers for what would make it easier for you to walk more and have clean air in your community.

To find out about more Clean Air Day, visit the Clean Air Day website.

Let’s hear from our Youth Ambassadors about how they are getting involved in Clean Air Day

Lydia

Lydia is going to share the Clean Air Day teacher resources with her Geography teacher, who is involved with the Eco Committee.

Fray

Fray’s school campus is part of a larger area of schools and residential areas. Fray is using Clean Air Day to raise awareness of the importance of a school street outside his school, to not only reduce air pollution, but also increase safety. More information on school streets can be found here.

Silvia

Silvia is going to ask her Head of Year if the Eco-reps from her school can run an assembly on Clean Air Day, talking about what individuals can do to reduce air pollution. If you are interested in running an assembly like Silvia, click here for our assembly resources

Kayla is going to try and get younger students involved in Clean Air Day by organising a quiz about air pollution to learn more about what air pollution is, and what the impact of air pollution has on our health.

Some other ideas from our Youth Ambassadors as to how you could get involved in Clean Air Day:

  • Wear a coloured t-shirt/item of clothing to school to raise awareness of Clean Air Day. Share photos on social media using the #CleanAirDay hashtag.

  • Do you usually get driven to school? If you can, why not walk, cycle, or travel in an active way to school for the week? If you’re walking, you could even listen to the Clean Air Day Walking playlist on your journey.

  • Talk to a friend about the impact of air pollution. Find out more about air pollution in your area by using the Clean Air Calculator.

  • Make a pledge as an individual, as a class or as a whole school. Find school resources, including those to support you making a pledge, here
